Happy Friday, friends!
Thank you so much for your very kind response and incredible support to my wanting to change my blog to a new focus! Your kind comments touched me and made me incredibly excited and very hopeful about this change, and hope you will stick around!
Apparently this is the year for change, because I actually have another exciting bit of news to share! As if having a baby and completely revamping my blog wasn't enough...
Last week we took passport photos of Fox (these are the outtakes... taking a straight-on picture of a baby is tough, but isn't he cute!?)
I am curious how cooking will go while we are over there because the darling flat that we are renting is tiny and doesn't have an oven... Guess you guys will be seeing a lot of stove-top type dishes and salads. I hope that is okay. I mentioned to Adam that not having an oven means I won't be able to make bread while we are over there. He said "Landen, we are going to the bread capitol of the world. We can buy amazing bread while we are there." Oooooh, right... Guess that solves that problem.
Has anyone ever been to Lyon? I had heard of it, but didn't know anything about it until we found out we might get to go! I am curious if loads of people have been and I haven't ever heard about it. Last year when we went to Norway, suddenly people who had visited or were visiting popped up everywhere!
Here is what I know already:
1. Apparently it is the food capitol of France (at least traditionally). Paris is up and coming currently, in the restaurant scene, I guess, which thrills me, because hopefully I will be able to try some tasty food!
2. There is a super awesome park with a zoo scattered throughout it.
3. There is the most charming-looking section of town that is considered "Old Lyon"
4. I have become addicted to looking at Airbnb listings in Lyon. This one is probably my favorite. (Also, looking at Airbnb a lot lately has really made me want to be a cleaner housekeeper with less stuff. Spaces look so much bigger and lovelier when they don't have loads of junk tucked in every corner... Currently, I am definitely guilty of that)
5. I read somewhere that many fewer people speak English in Lyon than in Paris, so I am definitely going to have to brush up on my French!
6. There is this AMAZING looking market there called Les Halles de Lyon with just about everything you could want there. I am super excited to check it out!
Please email me or comment with what you know about Lyon... if anything.
The lady behind the blog wildwandering.com just recently came back from France. She & her family travelled extensively through that area. She's a photographer & her husband is ex-pat. She'd be able to give you some awesome info! Hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteThis is perfect! Thank you so much for pointing me in her direction! She has gorgeous photos and will probably have been to Lyon! I already emailed her about it and wandered around her site! Thank you so much!
DeleteThis is exciting news! It will be such an adventure and I love that you have Fox to join you!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you can widen your focus to share some of the great food you eat there, skip the recipe part and show us photos :) just I thought! We will all be dreaming of France living!!!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, Lindsay, I will definitely be posting loads about the food that we eat there, the city, markets and probably loads of Fox in the city, and Fox at the markets, and probably Fox at the park.
DeleteSoooo exciting! Looking forward to reading about your adventure! And really try to study some French because most French people can't (or refuse to) speak English and they are usually friendlier if you try to speak French!
ReplyDeleteWe are sooo excited, too! I try not to focus on it to much, because it still feels very far away! Hopefully the next few months will hurry by! I took 4 French classes in college, and spoke relatively well back then, but that was about 5 years ago, and I haven't spoken regularly since... Bummer. Hopefully my studying will pay off and I will be conversational at least!
DeleteSounds like a great adventure for your family! Baby passports are so cute :)
ReplyDeleteYou could get a toaster oven to use while you're oven-less. We actually made thanksgiving dinner in a toaster oven one year because my parents oven broke they day before.
I am so excited to get his passport! The picture we settled on is super cute! That idea about a toaster oven is a great one! How funny that you made Thanksgiving dinner in one! Seriously resourceful! I love it!
DeleteWhen my daughter was in high school, we had French Exchange student come from Lyon and then my daughter went to her home there. We also visited Lyon ourselves on our trip to Europe in 2000, which I have recorded at my website European Photo Album.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful trip.
