4 Ways I Use My Silicone mats

A few years ago, Janssen gave me a silicone baking mat (I think for my birthday).  She had a few and had said great things about them.  I hadn't cooked much in those days, so I was all for new cooking equipment, and this looked as good as anything.

Fast forward five years, and this is possibly my most used piece kitchen equipment.  We have two of them, and they are always dirty, because I use them just about everyday.

You may not think you need one, but they are pretty life changing.  I really love that they are non-stick and reusable.

Here are a few ways that I use mine:

1.  Lining a rimmed cookie sheet:  They are perfect for making breads, cookies, and roasting vegetables.  This is the most typical use of my mats.

2.  Replacement for parchment paper when cooking a pizza on a pizza stone:  Makes getting the pizza out of the oven so much easier. Also, it helps it cook.

2.  An easy to clean up surface for rolling dough out: Occasionally cleaning off my counter sounds like a horrible activity.  So instead, I sprinkle my silicone mat with flour, and roll out cookies or rolls out on it instead.

3. Freezing fresh fruit: I freeze a lot of fresh fruit in the summer to use in smoothies.  These mats are way better than wax paper or parchment paper, because fruit comes off it really easily.

4.  Use it as a funnel: I often funnel my homemade granola into a large glass canister.  It would work great as a large and flexible funnel for most substances.

Do you use a silicone mat?  What do you like or not like about it?  What do you use yours for?

  1. How do you clean your mat? Because it's so flexible, I've always struggled with hand washing it in the sink. Do you have any tips?

  2. I love mine! Just bought some for my smaller sheet pans and I've used them approximately 1,000 times in the last two weeks! I use them for all the same reasons as you :)
