Twenty-Four Weeks Twin Pregnancy Update

After we got settled in Utah, I decided a paper chain would be nice to help me count down the weeks.  I had initially planned on doing it with Fox, but it is actually way more for me than him (although, he wants to tear off the links much more often than we are supposed to).  I think I was at 16 or 17 weeks when I made it, and it is amazing to see how much shorter it is now (although I look at the links left, and it still seems like I will be pregnant forever).  The weeks are racing by as summer is coming to an end and Adam's job is starting.

shirt: h&m// skirt: borrowed (Thanks, Janssen!)// shoes: DSW

A few notable things this week:

- Nesting is setting in, and a few weeks ago,  I pulled out all the baby clothes from Fox, and got to coo over them (and see Fox coo over them.  He had a good time helping me pull them all out and sort them).  I can't wait to see them on babies again!  Also, there were some fire engine PJ's from many, many months ago, and Fox was dying to wear them.  I felt bad I had to tell him no, because the footie part stopped at his knees, and there was NO way they were going to fit.  I am also in the process of redecorating Fox's room and baby proofing the house (grandparents who only have kids around occasionally have a very different set up than a little family with a curious two year old).

- I am starting to think about freezer meals.  Currently, I don't want to start making them until October (because: freezer burn), but I am hoping to have around 20 in the freezer when these babies are born.  We have a giant freezer that isn't too full downstairs, so I want to get it filled with healthy, delicious dinners (Adam is mostly vegetarian currently, so if you have good vegetarian ideas, PLEASE send them over!).  If you have any suggestions, I would LOVE them! Send them my way!  If you are curious, here is a list of the meals I made my last pregnancy.

- These babies are growing!  I haven't had too much stretching so far (at least not the uncomfortable kind), but this week, I think they have grown about half an inch, because I have been really uncomfortable a few days this week.  I have been using almond oil to try to prevent stretch marks (successful so far, but I have a LONG way to go.  It worked like a dream last pregnancy, so I am hopeful).

- Next week I have my first of two glucose tests (one for each baby, I guess?).  I am NOT looking forward to this.  Last time I passed out in the waiting room, and the drink is unbearably awful.  Hopefully this time will go better, and I won't have gestational diabetes.

- Also, a slightly embarrassing thing from a few weeks ago.  Remember how I am having identical twins?  And I tell people this several times a day some days?  Well, at my last ultrasound, the tech did 3D of both of the twins, and then let me know which one was which.  Without really thinking about it, I thought a few times, wow, they really look super similar (at least, as similar as you can look on a 3D picture taken while you are in the womb).  Then, like a day later, I thought, "Well, obviously they look similar!  They are identical twins!!!"  We will blame the pregnancy brain.

Hope you are having a wonderful week, and have a lovely weekend!

  1. I'm in the UK so this might be irrelevant but I thought it was worth mentioning. I have to have a glucose tolerance test every year and, like you, I despise the drink. My doctors took pity on me and now let me drink a very precise amount of Lucozade which does the same thing but, in my opinion, is much better. Perhaps it's worth asking if there are alternatives? Hope it goes well!

    You look great!

    1. Thanks for letting me know about this! I thought about it a lot leading up to my appointment, and then decided to see how things went if I altered my eating slightly that morning, and it worked out great! Your way sounds WAY better, though.

  2. What about some soups? I do a corn chowder that would work. 1 small package frozen corn, thawed, ran through a food processor so it's half pureed, half chopped. Some potatoes diced. Maybe some onion. Cooked in the Crock-Pot in chicken broth seasoned with salt & pepper and thyme. At the end, stir in some cream or milk. Usually I add in some chopped ham but that could be optional. This would make a meal with leftovers to freeze. That's my favorite way to stock the freezer: double recipes and freeze instead of having a freezer cooking day. Then a bag of frozen soup, thawed out, heated, and dinner's done. Good luck!

    1. That sounds tasty! Thanks for suggesting this! I have a corn soup in the freezer already, but we like corn soup, so maybe I will add a few more! Also, I am totally with you on not making all the freezer meals at once. It is kind of overwhelming, in my opinion.

  3. Definitely going to check out your list of freezer meals. I've been so unwilling to make dinner lately that I think having things in the freezer that I can pull out will be really helpful! Also, I second Beth with all the soups! That's basically what we live off of in the winter anyways!

    1. I am always amazed when I hear someone doesn't like soup. We have it multiple times a week many weeks of the year...

  4. When our twins were born, I made freezer breakfast tacos with eggs, cheese, and lots of veggies. We would eat these for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I would heat them up in the toaster oven for about 15 minutes.

  5. Not for your freezer, but here is a VERY easy 15 minute (honestly, 15 minutes) vegetarian meal that is shockingly delicious (and I am not a vegetarian! And my very carnivore partner approved too!): http://www.rickbayless.com/recipe/swiss-chard-or-spinach-tacos-with-caramelized-onion-fresh-cheese-and-red-chile/

  6. My favorite slow cooker soup recipe, which is vegan and also freezes well: https://www.budgetbytes.com/2013/09/slow-cooker-white-bean-soup

Two easy veg options that aren't much harder than defrosting/reheating:

For a super-quick one-pot vegetarian meal, I toss together chunky pasta, good jarred tomato sauce (I like Barilla marinara or tomato and basil), canned white beans or chick peas, and frozen chopped spinach (thawed and drained). It isn't gourmet, but it's a complete meal that really doesn't take any longer to make than plain pasta.

I like using yogurt or tahini sauce (plain yogurt and/or tahini, lemon juice, water, minced or crushed garlic, pinch of salt) to turn rice or quinoa, sauteed or roasted veggies (or even spinach wilted in the microwave), and canned beans or chick peas into an easy meal. Also makes a good salad dressing.

  7. With my last pregnancy, I nearly passed out after my 3 hour and literally spent the next 3 hours in bed recovering!

This pregnancy, I was able to just get a blood test. I had to insist that it was just too hard on me and I'd have 2 littles with me so passing out was all the more dangerous. They let me and told me that if a certain protein showed up to indicate a likelihood of gestational diabetes, I'd have to drink the glucola. Since you literally passed out, I think they'd work with you!

    1. My doctor told me to eat eggs this time, and it went SO much better! Still slightly woozy, but no passing out, or even close!

  8. And by *I just got a blood test*, they had me eat a meal and I went and got the blood test within 2 hours.
